InterStim Urinary Control Therapy
Test Stimulation Procedure
Do’s and Don’ts for Your Test Stimulation Procedure
DO’S
• Take it easy for the next four days
• Sense the stimulation at all times but not where it is uncomfortable. Stimulation should be felt in the lower buttocks, anus or toward the front of the bladder/pelvic area. If the stimulation has move or you do not sense it in any of these areas, please contact your physician’s office.
• Watch for the blinking GREEN light on top of you stimulator box (next to the dial). If the GREEN light is not blinking simply turn off the unit and reset the stimulator by turning it back on to a comfortable level. This is all done by turning the dial on the top of the stimulator box. Turn clockwise to increase the stimulation. Turn counter-clockwise to reduce the stimulation or to turn stimulation off.
• Complete the voiding diary as accurate as possible
• Contact your physician’s office if you have any questions or concerns.
DON’TS
• Do not take a bath and avoid taking a shower. You may take a “frontal shower” or “sponge bath” but be sure to keep the area where the procedure was done DRY. Keep all water or moisture away from the tape and wires on your lower back.
• Do not wear your stimulator box while bathing- whether it is a “frontal shower” or “sponge bath.”
• Do not scoot when you get in and out of a chair. Try to sit flat.
• Do not lift heavy items.
Please not that your test stimulation leads are next to your sacral that controls your bladder function. Be aware that the leads are not secured to anything other than the tape that is anchoring it to your lower back. Being that this is the case, there is little effort needed for these leads to migrate from the current position. Be careful with your activities and avoid anything that may cause the lead to move form the site that is needed to determine if this therapy is appropriate for your urinary control. Thank you for your cooperation during this test procedure. If you have any questions or concerns, please call: Wynne (318) 272-1258
