Post-op Instructions
Gyn Laparoscopy
1. Keep incision dry and clean 48 hours. May remove band aids/bandages in next AM. Leave any steristrips in place. May recover incision with band aid if you wish.
2. Call Dr.’s office for: Temperature above 101 degrees, persistent vomiting, nausea, dizziness, progressive abdominal pain, excessive bleeding. Yellow or green drainage or foul odor, or any problems you feel should be seen by Doctor.
3. Ice to operative site until bedtime. (optional)
4. Advance diet as tolerated.
5. Bed rest on operation day, then light activity slowly increasing to normal the 2nd day.
6. If you have not urinated 8 hours after getting home or are distended and cannot urinate, call our Doctor or go tot the emergency room.
7. Some patients experience pain in the right shoulder. This is usually referred pain and will resolve over 2-3 days with ambulation.
8. May be dizzy or light headed on day of surgery. No strenuous exercise, no alcohol and no driving for 48 hour post-op. Do not make any legal decisions or sign any legal documents for 24 hours post-op.
9. May shower in 48 hours if there is no incisional drainage – no bath for 1 week.
10. Pelvic rest for 2-3 weeks or until cleared by doctor. (No tampons, douche, intercourse, etc.)
11. Clean incisions with Hydrogen Peroxide and Neosporin ointment three times daily.
If you should experience difficulty in breathing, bleeding that you feel is excessive, persistent nausea or vomiting, any pain that is unusual, swelling or fever, please call your physician. If you find that you cannot contact your physician, but you feel that your signs and symptoms warrant a physician’s attention, go to the nearest Emergency Room.
POSOPERATIVE TELEPHONE CALL: A representative from the Surgery Center may call you by telephone a few days after surgery. Do not be alarmed. This is a routine call to find out how you are progressing after your surgery.
