Post-op Instructions
Breast Biopsy
1. 1. You will have dissolvable stitches. The incision is reinforced with small bandage strips called “steristrips” Do Not Remove the steristrips; they will come off on their own at about 7-10 days.
2. 2. Keep the dressing dry and clean 48 hours then clean with Hydrogen Peroxide and apply Neosporin once daily.
3. 3. Wear a firm support bra 24 hours daily for 7 days – this will reduce the scar, help to relieve pain and allow healing.
4. 4. If you have a frozen section performed, the results are immediate. Your physician will tell you the results. If the biopsy is sent to the lab for testing the results may take 48 hours.
5. 5. You will have a scar which will depend on the size of the lesion, but the overall shape of the breast should be unchanged.
6. 6. May be dizzy of lightheaded on day of surgery No strenuous exercise, no alcohol, no driving for 48 hours post-op. Do not make any legal decisions or sign any legal documents for 24 hours post-op.
7. 7. Report any temperature elevation above 101 degrees, nausea and vomiting, unrelieved pain dizziness or drainage from your incision line to you physician.
If you should experience difficulty in breathing, bleeding that you feel is excessive, persistent nausea or vomiting, any pain that is unusual, swelling or fever, please call your physician. If you find that you cannot contact your warrant a physician’s attention, go to the nearest Emergency Room.
