Post-op Instructions
BMT/ BMT with Adenoids/ Nasal Cautery Discharge Instructions
1. Slight bloody drainage to EARS/NOSE/MOUTH is normal for the first 48-72 hours. Notify doctor of any excessive bleeding (Slow general oozing or frank bright red bleeding).
2. If patient had adenoids removed please note that it is normal for patient to vomit. Do not be surprised to also see blood mixed in with vomit.
3. Avoid dirty water (lake, river, ocean water).
4. Use prescriptions as directed
5. Activity
a. Do not stay alone the day of surgery. May be back to normal activities the following day.
b. No work or school until directed by physician.
6. Diet
a. Regular diet (Please note anesthesia precautions) or
b. Soft diet until directed by physician.
7. If the patient has not urinated in eight hours after arriving home, contact your physician.
8. Call the doctor’s office immediately regarding a temperature above 101 degrees, persistent nausea and vomiting, or pain that is uncontrolled by pain prescription.
If you should experience difficulty in breathing, bleeding that you feel is excessive, persistent nausea or vomiting, any pain that is unusual, swelling or fever, please call your physician. If you find that you cannot contact your warrant a physician’s attention, go to the nearest Emergency Room.
